Book 2 Chapter 3-6

" It was only an' 'opeless fancy, It passed like an Ipril dye, But look an' a word an' the dreams they stirred They 'ave stolen my 'eart awye...They sye that time 'eals all things, They sye you can always forget; but smiles an' the tears across the years They twist my 'eartstrings yet!" (117)

This was a  song composed by women that were singing it. This song describes what the party have been doing to the proles. How the party has stolen everything. "...The dreams they have stirred They 'ave stolen my 'eart awye." this part of the song is saying how they steal their dreams. They have taken over their mind; how the party is taking over them. "..,They sye that time 'eals all things, They sye you can always forge but smiles an' the tears across the years They twist my 'eartstrings yet!" this part of the song describes how people can alwyas forget their dreams but throughout everything it can evolve them and show them that they are humans. This song is a sign of hope where if the proles remember their dreams and what not, they can overcome the party. The party won't be able take over the people.

"If you mean confessing...We shall do that, right enough. Everybody always confesses. You can't help it. They torture you.,,It's the one thing you can't do. They can make you say anything-- anything-- but they can't make you believe it. They can't get in side you ...that's quite true. They can't get inside you. If you can feel that staying human is worth while, even when it can't have any result whatever, you've beaten them."(137-138)

This part of the book is very interesting. They're thinking is that they can't really make people believe what they say. You can say anything but they know they can't make you believe what you say. Winston says that when you confess that is not the betrayal; you betray with your feelings. Their feelings are the one that can betray. The feelings are the ones that count. Words are just words, they really don't mean anything until you show feelings or the words you say. When people say "I'm sorry" it doesn't mean anything until you show that you won't do it again. Words are just a saying people actually need to show that words are worthy, with feelings.
